How to Apply for Residency in Paraguay
Temporary Residency - Valid for Two Years
You must first apply for a Temporary Residency Card at Migraciones in central Asuncion.
If you choose to use my service, I will personally accompany you to the office and deal with all paperwork, translations, answer any questions and be on hand to guide you every step of the way.
When your Residency Permit is ready, we will collect together and I will take you to another government department to apply for the Cedula (Paraguayan ID card).
Paperwork Needed to Apply for Paraguayan Residency & Cedula
You will need the following documents:
1. Original Birth Certificate with apostille*
2. Criminal record certificate from your country with a apostille*
3. Marriage certificate or divorce settlement with apostille* (not applicable for single people)
*NB. For countries that do not issue apostilles, documents will need to be legalized at the Paraguay Embassy in your country of origin.
How Long Does Residency Application Take in Paraguay?
Temporary Residency
STEP 1: The Temporary Residency application can be done in one week in person at office in central Asuncion. All being well, your Residency Card should be ready to collect in around 100 days.
Cedula
STEP 2: The Cedula. This your ID card needed to do day-to-day things in Paraguay, Eg. Open a Paraguayan bank account and apply for a driving licence.
When you have your Residency Card, we will apply for your Cedula.
The Cedula is processed via another government department in central Asuncion. I will accompany you, make sure the process is carried out correctly and deal with any issues. This should be ready in about a month.
How Long is Residency Card Valid?
The first time you apply, the Paraguayan Residency Card is valid for 2 years. After this, we can renew and obtain a Permenent Residence, valid for ten years.
